I'm baaaack!!!!

We had a baby!  And so much more has happened!  We bought our first house, had a baby, and our son even had some strange unknown illness that plagued him for over a month and then just went away on it's own.  And then this baby just won't sleep very well!

Listen in to hear an update!

I was running and just could NOT make myself get into it!  And then it occurred to me that this is a reflection of my life in that I just can't fall into motivation and therefore "beast mode" but have to consciously push myself out of the comfort zone.  I have to create a plan.  I have to ask for help sometimes, but if I'm just going thru the motions or doing what I always have done, then I'm just maintaining and not expanding!

AWWW CRAP

It's true, you know it.  Your kid will say something and you'll either cringe or your smile from what they did or said.

Whelp, you know you're REALLY in trouble now!

So, you can either let it slide or address it both internally (yes, first) AND externally.

You can either anchor their "learned behavior" or course correct it.

Action Steps:

  • White Belt:  Write down two examples where you can see that your child has learned from you their behavior.  Label them good or "needs corrected".  Then write out what you ultimately would want for them to do instead.
  • Black Belt:  If they are old enough.  Fall on the sword in front of them.  Let them know you messed up and you want to change.  And that you're hoping they will learn from your new example.
  • Black Belt:  If they are too young for that discussion.  Then I want you to take 10 minutes to look up a few things.  It can be pinterest or a blog, or even a video blog.  Look up redirecting and look up charts for positive reinforcement.  Take a look and see what can serve you!

The Lesson

SHIT will ALWAYS happen!  You are not immune to disaster or stress happening.  In fact, you're a stress magnet!
Sorry, but true.

So, now that you understand that you have already have a set level of stress and issues to handle; the question becomes... now what?

So, I'm the reason for all this chaos, so what can I do about this?

Main Points

  • In my life, with four kids, one on the way, several businesses, personal and professional growth, and then an emergency happens.   It is my own daily habits that give me the power to step up and handle the chaos.
  • If I hadn't used my morning rituals to be ready for the day - then I can only imagine how weak I could have shown up when my wife needed me or when my kids need me, or if I have a major issue or decision to make at work.
  • You HABITS either CREATE power or destroy it.  It's your choice!

Action Steps

  • White Belt:  Take control of when you go to bed and when you wake up.  If you're all over the place, then you're starting your day in reaction.  Here is your singular challenge - start here!  Have a set bedtime routine and a set waking up time.
  • Blue Belt:  Grab your journal, draw a line down the middle of the page and label one side with an up arrow.  And the other area a down area.  These represent increasing power and decreasing power.  Now list out your habits both "good" and "bad".  And now do the math.  Are you increasing your value each day or decreasing it.  Write out what needs to change.
  • Black Belt:  Write out your own "morning success ritual".  This isn't a first that I've asked this.  If you have already done this, then it's been long enough that you need to look and reflect if this is serving you or if you need to tweak your morning habits.

With Special Guests!

The lesson today is simple.  Kids are ALWAYS watching!  And what do YOU want them to remember about you when they become parents.

What habits will they take with them?

Action Steps

  • White Belt:  Sit down for a 10 minute visualization/meditation.  50 years from now, what do your kids and grand-kids remember about you?  What traditions have you passed down, what parenting strategies have you passed down.  What is their idea of marriage from your example?  Attitude about money?
  • Black Belt:  Separate these visualizations into Body, Spirituality, Business, and Relationships.  So 40 minutes but feel free to spread them out over a day or several days.  Journal afterwards.  And then see if you can reverse engineer these.

Background

We're looking to buy a house and that requires a lot of paperwork. I used to handle my own day to day bookkeeping and now I have a new CPA and a new bookkeeper handling that aspect. I chose the right people, and they are good at it. But I still got anxious and worried about not being able to access my stuff and print off a report at a moment's notice. I have to instead check with my team.

Worry, and wondering if I need to take my books back.

Not that I don't have access or control, but I have to go thru my team to make sure I have what I need.

Fear but not rooted in truth.

Main Points

  • I have to learn to trust the process that I set up to give me the freedom I was actually wanting.
  • I had to actually give myself permission to enjoy what I created.
  • Just like with your body when you go from getting in shape versus just maintaining.
  • Or, when you got the team helping you with a project and you just have to manage them versus doing the actual work. Let your team do what you hired them to do.

Action Steps

  • White Belt: Write in your journal where you need to actually enjoy the fruits of your labor. Meaning, you have done the work and you need to just sit back and be grateful.
  • Black Belt: Do the above, but a step further. When have you actually convinced yourself to sit back and relax because "you earned it" before you actually did? Think cheat meal, or sleeping in...

Background

I ran today for the first time in 2 1/2 weeks. It hurt. My joints hurt, it was hard to breath and it felt like I had started back to square one.

My point is, you lose progress really quickly.

My second point is that it's easier to stay up than catch up.

Main Points

  • In all areas of life, our habits create momentum. This momentum makes these new habits easier to do and when we our schedules change this moment helps us to stay on the path. Which is why it's hard to quit bad habits as well.
  • It is far easier to stay up with action (no matter how small) than to stop and lose that momentum. Meaning, even a crappy workout is better than no workout at all. Or, even if you just listen to this podcast and skip the homework, it's better than falling behind.
  • Action is a win no matter how small or big. So stay committed to action.

Action Steps

  • White Belt: Finish today what you said you would do this morning.
  • Blue Belt: Set up a task or habit list. Keep it simple. Something for your body, your soul, your family, and your finances. Just one item you can do each day. My coaches at www.warriorbook.com set this up and check it out if you like.
  • Black Belt: Download a habit tracking list or look up the x-effect and create four habits to start tracking each and every day. This is your "no matter what" list.

Business Lesson Today

But really it applies across the board.  As a spouse, parent, coworker, or business owner.

Because we're constantly selling, selling ourselves and our wants.  I have to sell my kids on using manners, on going to bed.  I have to sell my wife on sex or what to eat or what to do.  I have to sell my team on a vision or idea.

The list goes on and on.  But what you really need to identify is looking at what you're actually selling.

Main Points

  • You could claim to sell jewelry but if you can identify what that jewelry actually represents, think about how much more effective you can be as a salesperson.
  • For example, insurance.  You're actually selling peace of mind.  Or for them not to even worry about losing everything.
  • A teacher sells freedom.  Freedom to express one's self or even freedom from control and the freedom to learn anything they want once they learn how to learn.
  • I sell my kids unconditional love and safety.  I am not there to entertain them.  I am not there to be their friend, but their mentor and parent.

When you re-frame, you gain clarity for you and for your "client" and your impact will deepen and expand.

Action Steps

  • White Belt: What roles do you have in your life?  Write them out and clarify your role with each.  Parent, spouse, teammate, boss, healer?
  • Black Belt:  Piece of paper, draw a line down the middle.  On the left, list what your role is and what you initially think you sell.  On the right, re-frame what you're selling.  Level up and really dig deep and piece this out.
    • Ex:  Coach.  I sell results.   Turns to:  I am not giving anyone results.  I sell time and money by saving people time by giving them systems and feedback to fast forward their progress.

Background

I am currently reading Robert Kiyosaki's Cash-flow Quadrant and today a section really struck me right in my soul.

"...fear will often stop their body from doing what it must do.  That is why so many "A" students get stuck in "analysis paralysis" studying every little detail but failing to do anything..."

He goes on to talk about how our system actually punishes students for making mistakes and thus why A students are just that, they make the fewest mistakes.

"The problem with that emotional psychosis is that, in the real world, people who take action are the ones who make the most mistakes and learn from them to win in the game of life."

Main Points

  • Paralysis from analysis has caused me to drop more ideas and more opportunities than I can care to mention.
  • The financial gain and opportunity gain that has been lost makes me physically ill.
  • School has programmed us to fear making mistakes and punished us when we did.
  • People that can let go of that fear will actually learn more because of those mistakes!
  • Making mistakes is guaranteed when you commit to growth and expansion.

Action Steps

  • White Belt:  List out the projects or decisions that you have yet to make and commit towards action.
  • Blue Belt:  Out of this list, choose one project and commit to action within 48 hours and declare on your social media account or to an accountability buddy.
  • Black Belt:  Take one project.  Write down four action steps that will happen this week that will help you finish your project or decision.  Schedule each step in your week.

May is a time for Mother's Day and Graduation

Congratulations to all the moms and graduates out there.

Main Points

  • Time is relative of course and there is a theory that time seems to speed up as we age because we have less "firsts" and things to celebrate.
  • In the short time that I have been alive, I am now twice the age of when I graduated but as my accomplishments are far greater than when I was a kid, I have totally celebrated less and have not honored the time, effort, and expansion I have experienced.
  • The Shrine:  Go to any graduation party and you will see the shrine dedicated to all the victories of the graduate over the course of their young life.
  • So now, you probably don't have your parents doing this still.  But what then are you doing to help celebrate your wins?
  • I don't believe in small or big wins - they are simply wins and these are what makes life fun and full of life.  Seeing the beauty in the little things.

Action Steps

  • White Belt:  Write down three wins from the last week.
  • Blue Belt:  Start a journal, use an app, or use this journal you have been using and start writing down three wins each night.  Wake up and read them before breakfast.  After a few days, decide if this is a habit worth keeping.
  • Black Belt:  Do the above.  Also, set a goal for the day or week.  When you meet it, celebrate.  Do a dance, buy a shirt, get your nails done, but celebrate.

Yes I said it - shit.

You know exactly what I'm talking about, because sometimes the world just beats on us and even for a moment (or days), we just feel beat down and done.  It's where we might even know what we need to do to get back on track, but we can't even answer the question, "Why? and for what purpose".

Yep, I've been there.  And often right when my alarm goes off.  I have to literally remind myself why I am getting up and force myself to do so.  I don't even feel powerful until much later.

But sometimes that feeling doesn't leave.

So, what do you do?

You don't hide it, you dive into it deeper.

Ugly cry, scream, curse, beat up your pillow, punch, yell at something.  But purge purge purge til you're blue in the face.   Get it out of your system as soon as possible with as much force as you can.  You're forcing a detox.  Like breathing out, you can force more and more air out and you need to get that evil energy out... NOW.

Otherwise, you keep it in and release it out on the innocent.  Your family.  Maybe even yourself and you speak evil to even yourself.

Instead purge, and purge hard.

Action Steps

Everyone:  choose something little (like too long in the grocery line), something that made you made.   And then take a moment to full on purge it.  Over the top, like toddler with their blankie in the dryer type fit.  Go all out.  Then record how you feel after.

Background Story

At the kindergarten track and field day for my daughter Saffron.  Which, by the way, she won first in the long jump and third in the sprint.   But back to the story.

During the sprint, all of these little girls were running as hard as they could but then when they got close to the ticker tape for the finish line - they had no idea what to do!  So they all slowed down as they reached the finish and clumsily piled through!

The Point

In life, where are you setting goals and targets and yet, instead of sprinting THROUGH them, you coast to the end.  Meaning, you only reach to the actual goal versus driving through it to a whole new level?

Imagine how life would be if you just plowed right through from now on?

Action Steps

  • White Belt: Write down a time that you set a goal and coasted to finish it.  What could have been the result if you had plowed right through it instead?
  • Blue Belt:  Share on your social media this premise and teach someone else about it.  To teach is to learn.
  • Black Belt:  Teach and declare a target that you are committed to and that you know you can sprint right through it if necessary.

Lesson from Saffron's Track Meet.

May 8, 2018

Content done!  Better than perfect, but listen up!

May 4, 2018

Backstory

While I was first working with my coaches and mentors a year and a half ago, I could not answer, "What is it that I'm working towards" or "what do I want out of life?"  Instead I could only truthfully answer that I knew my life wasn't working out so hot.  I want to run away from that as fast as I could and so I would hustle and push hard and fast.  And wasted a shit ton of energy!

Main Points

  • It's way easier to know what you don't want.  But that doesn't give you a target to push towards.
  • Take the time to visualize your future in body, mind, spirit, relationships, and career/finances.  Begin with the end in mind (as Stephen Covey would say).
  • Not having a target will waste time and energy.
  • This is the single hardest thing besides consistency that you'll have to do on this journey with me.

Action Steps

  • White Belt:  In what category of your life do you realize that it's a now or never scenario?  What are you "all in committed" to doing about it?
  • Blue Belt:  In body, spirit, relationship, and finances - what is your ultimate vision that you can actually visualize?  How far out did you envision this?  (1 year, 30 days, 10 years?)
  • Black Belt:  What is the legacy that you built and passed on to your future generations.  Meaning, what did you embody and teach your kids/grandkids in these categories?  How did you role model?

"I had to image the legacy I built in 75 years.  I probably won't be alive then, but I took time to ask myself, "what do people remember about me"?"      --  Nick Fanning

The Point

I have a guilty pleasure of watching people actually spend more time and energy trying to be lazy and take a short cut.  Like a guy that won't get out of his seat to pick something up that he dropped and so he takes 3-5 minutes straining his foot to drag it to him.  Or a kid that will throw an epic fit for minutes for something that would take a few seconds.

You know, we do that at all ages.  We are addicted to easy.  But we are also addicted to "busy".

Main Points

  • EVERYONE thinks they are busy!  Whether you own several companies or you're unemployed or retired.  Or have 6 kids or none at all.  Or if you have a wife or completely single.   You've all been sold on the lie that you're busy.
  • You're distracted by things that just fill the time, filling the gaps.
  • Instead lets create time and fill it with actual production or time to connect with yourself or family.

Action Steps

  • White Belt:  Identify where you are consistently wasting 10 minutes.  How could you better use 10 minutes to improve your life.
  • Blue Belt:   Identify one chore or activity you have to do on a regular basis and how can you delegate or outsource it to open up more time.  What are you going to fill that time with?  Reading? One on One time with kids?
  • Black Belt:  Do the Above.  AND... schedule your down time... the do whatever I want time, but set a timer and stick to it.  So, if you want 30 minutes guilt free time at lunch and at night.  Write it down and use a timer.  Report back how this goes.

Main Points

  • This is SIMPLE but not easy.
  • How you start your day will dictate how you will finish.
  • Start with power, end with power.  Sleep in and start behind, you will end behind.
  • Make your bed and start with gratitude and the rest of the dominos of your life will also fall but starts with a single push.

Action Steps

  • White Belt:  Commit to making your bed and starting with gratitude for one week.
  • Blue Belt:  Write out your ideal morning and what would you need to have done before you walk out the door to feel like you already won for the day?
  • Black Belt:  Write Out a Morning Success Ritual that you could do each day to give you power.  Just a short list (don't over commit) and then for one week do it.  And journal to yourself about how you feel when you did it vs. if you missed it (ideally you didn't).

Why Are We Talking About This:

Too often we allow our pride to rule our lives.  We suffer in silence and worry that we'll be exposed for the fake and posers we are.  What happens is that nothing happens and we sink into mediocrity.  We don't get the help we need and we let our flame, our light extinguish.

Think of having the right person help you is like having the right tool to build something.  Let's say you need to use a nail to join together some wood.  Is it not easier to use a hammer versus a brick?  They both work, but one works way faster and better.  Having the right tool for any project will save frustration and time.

Therapists, doctors, coaches, advisers, or even more team members will make whatever life you're building go that much faster and give you better results.

Action Steps

  • White Belt:  What is one area of your life where it's YOU that's holding you back.  Write this out and then write out what would be possible if you had someone to help you.
  • Blue Belt:  Take one area and find someone to help you.  Whether that's hiring someone or asking a friend or group of friends to keep you accountable or help.  Get out of your head that this will be expensive and or embarrassing.  Start small.
  • Black Belt:  Put yourself into "Coach Mode".  You have a potential client with the same goals or challenges that you face.  What is your recommended plan of action?  Write it out.  PM me on facebook if you want feedback.

The Background

We have been having a discussion on how to finally move from Point A to Point B and today we are tackling relationships.  We have discussed your health, your spirituality, and now we're looking to improve our relationships.  But as you invest into your family, we want to keep this as simple and efficient as possible.  Instead of relying on how we feel in our relationships, I want you to focus on doing a daily investment.  But to make sure our efforts are not wasted, we're discussing the "Five Love Languages" so we can make sure we're doing the right stuff!

There are Five ways that we like to give and like to receive love and connection.  This applies to our spouse as well as our children and other loved ones.

  • Quality Time
  • Physical Touch
  • Words of Affirmation
  • Acts of Service
  • Gifts of Giving

Each of these are explained further on their website or even in this episode.  So listen in.  Because I can tell you that this will save you energy and frustration when you can streamline how you can fill your partner's cup.  If you don't speak their language you might be working your ass off and it won't make a difference in your marriage!

Action Steps:

  • White Belt:  take the quiz and have your spouse take the quiz.  Then discuss.
  • Black Belt:  Take you both take the quiz.  Discuss.  And now, in your journal or post how you will put this into action!
  • Bonus:  After learning about this, what love language do your kids have?  If they are little you can either guess or they can also take the quiz if they are older.  There is also a "Love Language for Kids".

Why You Should Listen:

We all fucking do it!   We as a society WANT easy!  We want the Life Hack, the cheap, the time saving, effort saving easy!!!!

And it's killing us.

  • Fast food - easy and killing our health
  • PORN:  easy and killing our marriages, sex drives, and social life
  • TV/MOVIES: killing our social life and even relationships with our kids.
  • PHONE:  see above
  • Tablets/internet: see above
  • Credit cards: spending NOW instead of saving up for things.  EASY and killing us (from stress)
  • PILLS, MEDICATIONS, SURGERY:  really freakin easy versus actually us caring about our health.

So YES, we're freaking addicted to EASY and it's destroying us.

What if you instead embraced the suck and knew that what you ACTUALLY wanted was on the other side of the hard work.

  • Health - from real food and real exercise and taking LESS medications
  • Wealth - actually using a budget and following it to save for retirement.
  • Marriage - not using porn or TV or alcohol or anything else from you having to deal with your spouse and what you messed up.
  • Kids - what if you stopped staying at work to avoid the awkwardness you created with your kids.

I hope this triggers you.  I hope it pisses you off, because you NEED TO UNDERSTAND WHAT IS AT STAKE!

Own it!

Own your pain of your current situation and then freaking get ready to work.

Action Steps

  • White Belt:  Where are you addicted to easy in your life.  Write them all out.
  • Blue Belt:  After you have your list.  Which one would have the most dramatic improvement to you life if you stopped trying to make it EASY and just do the work you know you need to.
  • Black Belt:  do the above.  Now list one thing you're committed to doing in the next 48 hours.

What Happened.

I made a promise.  A podcast, a blog, an email, and a video to help my tribe improve by 1% every day.  And then LIFE freakin showed up!

Chaos is inevitable, so why did I promise and yet not follow through?!?

So, here goes, it's 9:40pm and I'm recording... FOR YOU.

But also for me and to keep my promise.

So, what did you promise yourself and where are you not following through?

This is your wake up!

Why Listen Today:

We use our workouts and our food to give us just raw power and energy, but we also have stress hitting us from all areas and angles.  We can use our spirituality to wash off this stress.

Spirituality is not religion.  That is not the topic today to avoid any conflicts and to keep from distracting from this message.

Instead look at spirituality to define your place in this world and your purpose.  Answer the biggest question of "why"?

As we practice our spirituality in the many forms of meditation, prayers, contemplation, and deep thought - this releases us from stress and worry.

So listen in for your challenges and to find out why this is 2nd in importance to your body but more important than even your relationships.
